Can I finish this blog in four minutes? That is my challenge, I think I can succeed.
I really like the new web site, fantastic job!!! I love that the drop down menu no longer interferes with the search box. I love the layout and especially the event calendar.
So far, I haven't found anything confusing, I just need to familiarize myself with new locations of various information.
I hope patrons will love the new site, it seems well organized and straight forward.
Thank you for working so hard on it!

Task #9 - Universal Class
I really love Universal Class, maybe I am having school withdrawal? Honestly, I think I just love learning.
I think this could be a useful tool for staff training. Personally speaking, I could use some help in the assertive department, so I signed up for the Assertiveness Training course. Now I am on the road to bossiness! Just kidding, there is a difference between being assertive and aggressive. I will only use my new found powers for good and not for evil.

Task #8 EspaƱol LIbGuide
I really like this task. I felt it very informative and simple enough for the end of a busy workday. I missed 3 questions, but that's ok, I still feel smarter than I did for Task #7!
I would definitely use this fancy translator if I had a patron looking for more information on literacy, citizenship, or anything!

Task #7 Cloud Computing-Google Docs and Dropbox
I hate hate hate feeling like an idiot so I obviously hate a lot. If I was more like a certain co-worker, I would get angry and bake, but alas I am plagued with unproductive anger. This task makes me feel like a big idiot, I just can't seem to wrap my tiny brain around the cloud computing concept. When I read this, "Google Docs was designed as an online document editor. Each document you create is stored in your Google Docs list, which is tied to your Google account. Google Docs also allows you to upload individual text, spreadsheet and presentation documents and convert them to Google Docs format. In January 2010, Google extended the ability to upload to Google Docs to any file type. You can upload any file smaller than one gigabyte to your Google Docs account for later retrieval. Many types of files, including images, videos and text files, can be viewed online in your Google Docs account." I honestly feel like spraying a fire extinguisher through the book drop in the middle of the night.
Needless to say, I need to improve my computer skills. I do not use either of these do-hickies. I guess I need more time to practice each to understand the possibilities.

Task #6 helping Patrons
After completing the quiz, I was surprised to discover that the Book a Librarian sessions could be used for business, genealogy, health, local history, book and author questions. I guess I just figured these sessions were offered to help folks with computer and basic genealogy questions. I had no idea that health and business were included. How great.
My example of a multiple choice question would be:
A fresh faced high school senior would like to know how to prepare for the upcoming ACT exam.
A. Discourage them from even thinking about attending college, most millionaires are high school dropouts.
B.Ask to speak with their parent.
C.Lead them to LearningExpress on the website and teach them to use the catalog to find study guides.

Extra Credit #2 A Google A Day
Cool! That was PRETTY FUN, a great way to find out info that you may never need, unless you are a contestant on Jeopardy. Oh Trebek.
Today's question is "If your doorknob is made with this alloy of copper and zinc, it naturally disinfects itself. How many hours does it take to sanitize?" Well, anyone who is anyone will know the answer is obviously brass and that the copper present will kill germs on the surface within 8 hours.
I can now be a know-it-all with the help of MCPLD, Google, and Jeopardy. I choose not to, however, because sometimes ignorance is bliss.
Please enter me for the gift certificate, if I qualify. Thank you.

Task #5 Chilton Library
The Chilton Library is something I have actually used before. It is very user friendly and I think people are surprised at how easy it is to use. Most people seem apprehensive when I suggest it to them, but they are pleased when I walk them through it. I will be introducing this computer finery to my daughter who has just inherited my old Honda/jalopy. She is taking auto repair class at WCCC during the school year to empower herself. Yee Haw!!! What a smarty.
I looked up how to remove the door panel on a 92 Honda Civic and the results pictured were from an older model Honda, the instructions were outdated in that respect. However, it all works out as my daughter will be doing all the work while I sit in a climate controlled room, eating bonbons, and watching my stories. Hooray for Chilton's!!!
